Welcome to bin 105
Bin 105 opened a little over two years ago,
born out of
the frustration of being able to find
little other than big
name, mass produced wines in Lincoln’s chain stores
and independent wine shops.
I had been in the wine business, retail and
mostly wholesale
for well over twenty years, and was constantly told by
retailers that “those unknown wines don’t sell” and by sell
they meant, “we’ll stick them on the shelf, hang a rating on
them and they had better move!” they were right, they don’t
sell themselves, you have to talk to your customer and learn
their likes and dislikes.
I had the wacky idea that customers wanted
interesting
wines, wines that taste like they came from somewhere,
honest service, and some one to care if they were happy
with their purchase, plus, I really enjoyed turning people on
to great new finds, so bin 105 became a reality.
Being in the wholesale side as long as I had,
I knew who the
“good guys” were, importers who’s first concern is the quality
of the product they sell, so I started with them. Kermit
Lynch, Dalla Terra, Martine’s, Jorge Ordonez and Terry Theise.
I also carry a great bunch of small, independent wineries
from California, Oregon and Washington, like Lewis Cellars,
Peter Michael, Hendry, Shafer, L’Ecole #41 and Witness Tree,
to name just a few.
I also knew that you can’t sit around and
wait for the
local distributors to bring you stuff, or you’ll end up with the
same wine everybody else has, so I read as much as I can
and travel as much as possible to find things that taste great
in
all price ranges.
I love it when people come in and say “I’ve
never seen any
of these wines before”. The majority of wines
in the shop
are available in Lincoln only at bin 105 and many can’t be
found anywhere else in Nebraska.
We do monthly wine tastings, have lots of
visits
from winemakers, and have invested in a state of the art
wine tasting machine, allowing you to sample a great variety
of wines that may be a bit off the beaten path or out of
your everyday comfort range.
We have wines ranging from under 10 bucks to
several
hundred per bottle, but my goal is to make sure that every
wine, regardless of price, is a value.
I hope you’ll stop by and check us out.
Best wishes!
Steve Blazek
